Application
The skills developed from attending this course applies to a wide range of situations where emergencies involving cardiac arrest may occur, including persons working in education, aged and community care, sport, travel & tourism, hospitality, and other workplace and community activities.

2-3 hours classroom training and assessment

Course Content
This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to handle cardiac emergency situations.

 Topics includes:
Respond to an emergency situation

Perform CPR procedures including operate automated external defibrillator (AED)

Communicate details of the incident

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisite units. Participants should have numeracy and literacy skills to be able to oral communication with injured or ill person provide an accurate verbal report to emergency services and a written report to workplace supervisor also comprehend written learning and assessment material and be physical able to perform CPR on a manikin on the floor for two minutes

Assessment Methods

Followed DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines, including:

  • performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
  • performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
  • responded appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
  • managed the unconscious breathing casualty
  • followed single rescue procedure, including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal Interruptions to compressions
  • followed the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Responded to at least one simulated first aid scenario contextualised to the candidate’s workplace/community setting, including:
  • demonstrated safe manual handling techniques
  • provided an accurate verbal or written report of the incident

Award Issued
A nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to all successful participants
