HLTAID003 Provide First Aid
The skills developed from attending this course may be applied to a wide range of activities where first aid emergencies may occur e.g. Work, home, recreation.
Also provides compliance with the code of practice First Aid in the Workplace for all business owners and their workers including education, aged and community care, sport, outdoor recreation, hospitality, construction, manufacturing and service industry workplaces.

This course provides the skills and knowledge to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty until the arrival of medical or assistance.
Introduction to first aid principles Assessing an emergency situation
Airway and breathing management of an unconscious person HLTAID001 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation techniques (CPR) including use of an Automated Defibrillation
First Aid management of a conscious person
Medical conditions including cardiac, diabetes, epilepsy
Infection control and First Aid for minor wounds
Allergic reactions and asthma
Control of major external bleeding and shock
Management of near drowning
Hyperthermia and hypothermia
Burns and electric shock
Eye and soft tissue injuries
Venomous bites and stings
Fractures and spinal injuries
Head, chest and abdominal injuries
Assessment of the sick and injured
Recording vital signs
Communicating details of an incident
Debriefing and evaluation of response to critical incidents
There are no prerequisite units. Participants should have numeracy and literacy skills to be able to comprehend written learning and assessment material complete a written first aid report on a first aid situation and be able to physical perform CPR on a manikin on the floor for two minutes also complete various practical first aid tasks using fellow course participants and or manikin as requested by the trainer
Performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor Responded to at least two simulated first aid scenarios contextualised to the candidate’s workplace setting Applied first aid procedures for the following: allergic reaction, anaphylaxis, bleeding control, choking and airway obstruction, envenomation, using pressure immobilisation. fractures, sprains and strains, using arm slings, roller bandages or other appropriate immobilisation techniques, respiratory distress, including asthma, shock.
A nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to all successful participants
