HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

This qualification describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

It applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.  Southern Cross First Aid deliver this qualification as a face -to face course.  At our training rooms or on site at your workplace

 The essential outcomes of the course and the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the required outcome is as follows.

Respond to an emergency situation. by being able to

  • Recognise and assess an emergency situation.
  • Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty.
  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Seek assistance from emergency services.

Perform CPR procedures by being able to

  • Perform CPR in accordance with the ARC guidelines.
  • Display respectful behaviour towards casualty.
  • Operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturers’ instructions.

Practical CPR skills:
Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. Then attach and follow the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to deliver at least one shock. Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.

Communicate details of the incident by being able to

  • Accurately convey incident details to emergency services.
  • Report details of incident in line with appropriate workplace or site procedures.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of information in line with statutory or organisational policies.

Course Title: Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Mode of Delivery:  face-to-face classroom training and assessment
Duration:  Face-to-face training and assessment take 2 hours in a classroom environment.
Assessment: Written and practical scenario-based assessment
Age Requirement: Minimum age is 14 Years
Certificate Valid: 12 months from date of course completion
Annual renewal of CPR certification is recommended
